So, it’s been a while since a new issue of Glow came out…
Yeah! Our last campaign for Glow #5-6 was in… February 2023. So it’s almost been two years. That’s a long time! There’s no two ways about it. A lot has happened since then! In our defense though…
Okay, there is no real defense. Glow has been on the backburner for a little bit. First, because of writer’s block. And then, well, we got really busy with … *gestures wildly.* (And by gesturing wildly, I mean… tabletop roleplaying games.) To be fair though the last campaign was for two issues at once! So, if we had split those two apart…
It would’ve still meant one issue a year for the past two years.
Yeah, I guess when you put it that way…
Explain yourself.
Okay… As a project, Glow is kind of the big “monkey” on my (Ray’s) back. It’s my idea, my baby, and I have a lot to say with the story! What that is constantly changes with the times, but … okay, let me digress here and give some advice to any aspiring or nascent creators reading this…. if you’re thinking about making anything, start small at first. Don’t just jump into a three season / sixteen issue a season / fantasy epic.
Or, do, and y’know, just focus on that instead of 1/8th through deciding to become a game designer / publisher / probably someone with undiagnosed chronic project ADHD…
That’s a long winded way of saying that for a very long time I had writer’s block on the project. Somewhere in between Issues #4 and #5 the story took quite a big fork, with a major change to the plot that required a lot of rethinking. We essentially wrote four entirely distinct drafts with different stories from #5-8. It was long. It was difficult!
But now? I honestly think the next two issues are some of the best we’ve written - AND, we have a clear outline in mind.
So… when’s the next issue come out?
Glow #7 launches in Spring 2025 and introduces the free city of Arkadai, an ancient city that has been at the crossroads of commerce since before the Fall.
Glow #8 launches in Fall 2025 and explores the origins of Myra and Kelbourne, answers many of the longstanding questions of the series and of course asking many more!
Two issues in one year?!
I know! It’s crazy, but, we’re super pumped to be getting back to the world of Glow!
The dates we picked for the launches of each are significant, too: March represents the classic period for us when it comes to crowdfunding, as we launched our first campaign for Skies of Fire #1 in March 2014, whereas October is near my birthdate and not much would make for a happier birthday than getting more Glow out in the world.
If you got this far, thanks for reading! Glow is the most important artistic undertaking I’ve taken on, and true reflection of who I am. I’m honored to have you on this journey into the Wastes. There’ll be more to come about the upcoming issues and Glow as a whole in this space, so stay tuned!
